Hyderabad, Aug 04 (ANI): Police in Hyderabad city arrested a 37-year-old man from Oman for trying to marry a 17-year old minor girl. The man, identified as Badar Yousuf Al Balushi arrived in Hyderabad on July 18 from Oman. He reached the city and made preparations for his wedding with a minor. Acting on a tip-off police reached the spot and arrested Balushi. A case has been registered against him. Police added they were searching for the brokers who arranged this marriage. State Minority Commission has asked for a detailed report. Child marriage is illegal in India, but it is deeply rooted in Indian society and remains widespread in parts of the country. The legal age for marriage in India is 18, but marriages like these are common, especially in poor, rural areas where girls in particular, are married off young.
