Two ex-servicemen begun fast unto death at Jantar Mantar demanding OROP

New Delhi, August 17 (ANI): Disappointed over the government not announcing implementation of the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme, two ex-servicemen Colonel Pushpendra Singh and Hawaldar Major Singh on Monday began fast unto death at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Both the veterans’ began the hunger strike after Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not announce a firm date for launching the scheme in his Independence Day speech. The agitation of the ex-servicemen has entered its 64th day on Monday. Meanwhile, ten former service chiefs wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on One Rank One Pension or OROP. In the letter to the PM, the ten former chiefs said they are “deeply perturbed and distressed” by the “high-handed” police action on the protesting veterans on the eve of Independence Day during a drive to clear the area of protesters.
