Two Maoist leaders killed in encounter in Khunti

Khunti, August 30 (ANI): Two Maoist leaders were killed in an encounter with police in Jharkhand. The encounter took place near Adki police station in Khunti district late on Friday. The two Maoists belonged to Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI). Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jharkhand Jaguar and local police reached Khunti. The armed Maoist rebels opened fire at them, to which the security forces retaliated and gunned down the rebels. The killed Maoists have been identified as zonal commander of PLFI Ashiyan Soya aka Dakwal and sub-zonal commander Sanika Purti. While Ashiyan had more than 40 cases registered against him relating to murder, extortion and arson which include the murder of a journalist, Sanika had over 30 cases registered against him. Jharkhand police called the encounter “a major success.”
