Incense stick industry creates employment for women in Tripura

Tripura, Sep 01 (ANI): “Mendi Agarbati Center”, a women-run cluster is situated in Dhalai district in Tripura. Producing a variety of incense sticks, the aim of the centre is to empower tribal women and utilize bamboo resources of the state for economic growth. The centre was set up in 2014 with technical support from Tripura Bamboo Mission (TBM) and funding from the Indo-German Development Co-operation Project (IGDC). The workers, who belong to economically backward families, are now able to make a decent living. Currently, 24 women are working at the centre on a regular basis. The center also provides training in incense stick making to tribal women. The product is sold in Tripura and other neighbouring states. Such small business ventures play an important role in making the tribal women self reliant.
