Venkaiah Naidu conducts workshop to discuss smart cities mission

New Delhi, Sep 03 (ANI): Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday held a workshop in New Delhi to outline the government’s vision of developing smart cities. The workshop was the first of its kind. Two more meetings will be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata cities. Naidu discussed various aspects of preparation of smart city plans with senior government officials and all stakeholders. Naidu said that infrastructure and urban governance must be improved in all areas of the country for inclusive growth. Naidu announced a list of 98 smart city nominees last month. Uttar Pradesh will have the maximum number of smart cities – 13 – followed by 12 in Tamil Nadu, 10 in Maharashtra and so on. Total population of these 98 cities is about 130 million, accounting to 35 percent of India’s total urban population.
