Woman Maoist cadre killed in encounter in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli

Gadchiroli, Sep 05 (ANI): A woman Maoist cadre was killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra. The encounter took place in a forest in Dhanora Tehsil of Gadchiroli district. The Maoist rebels opened fire at the police, to which the security personnel retaliated and gunned down a woman cadre. Police called the encounter a “major success”. It recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the rebels’ hideouts. The Maoists, also known as ‘Naxals’ in India, seek the violent overthrow of the Indian state and have fought authorities for decades, particularly in rural areas of central and eastern India where they enjoy some support.
