Authorities ban water bottles at first India-South Africa ODI after crowd trouble

Kanpur/ Dharamsala, Oct 07 (ANI): Embarrassed by crowd trouble during the second Twenty20 international between India and South Africa in Cuttack town, authorities on Wednesday barred cricket lovers from carrying drinking water bottles to Kanpur city, venue of the first one-day international between the two rivals. The match will be played on October 11. Senior police officials have directed that more than 40,000 cricket lovers would not be allowed to carry any mineral water bottle or cold drink bottles with them. Authorities have also erected a 10-feet high wired net on the boundary of the stadium to prevent recurrence of any event. The Cuttack match suffered a delay of close to an hour after fans, angry about the performance of the home team, started hurling plastic bottles on to the ground. Supporters at the sold-out Barabati Stadium threw bottles during the change of innings and again when South Africa were batting, forcing the players off with the visitors 70 for three in 13.2 overs and closing in on victory.
