Herds of elephants wreak havoc in West Bengal

West Bengal, Nov 30 (ANI): More than 40 elephants entered a village in West Bengal and wrought havoc, leaving residents scared. Elephants split into herds and trampled over standing crops and vegetables in fields of Chandrakona forest range area. Angry villagers accused the local administration of failing to provide security to them as elephants had become a menace. Forest officials often tranquilize the elephants but after a few hours they return to fields. Attacks by elephants have been frequent in West Bengal and bordering north eastern state of Assam which cause serious injuries and deaths to tribals and villagers living near the forest area. Hundreds of people are killed every year by rampaging elephants.
