Mumbai gets 1,000 CCTV cameras in first phase of surveillance project

Mumbai, Nov 30 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the first phase of Mumbai City Surveillance Project on Monday (November 30) as a part of which 1,000 CCTV cameras were installed across the southern part of country’s financial capital. Under this scheme, a total of 6,000 CCTV cameras will be installed across the city to keep a close eye on every movement in the city. Speaking at the event, Fadnavis said that at a time when the federal government was building smart cities in the country, the aspect of security could not be over-looked. Fadnavis added that the CCTV cameras were being installed in line with the recommendations of the Pradhan Committee- constituted in the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks. Media reports said that the Maharashtra government is likely to wrap up the second phase of the project by 2016 and high-definition (HD) cameras are being used for the project which will be capable of capturing every minute detail.
