Shimla, Feb 13 (ANI): Ahead of the Valentine’s day, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Youth Enlightening the Society (YES) organised a campaign to promote compassion towards animals in Shimla. The campaigners asked passersby to be compassionate towards animals and switch to vegan food. A campaigner, dressed as Valentine’s angel, carried a heart shaped banner reading ‘Have a Heart: Try Vegan’ and distributed red flowers among tourists. The day is named after an Early Christian martyr Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
