Varanasi, Feb 10 (ANI): Thousands of people gathered at the banks of Ganga river in Varanasi to pray for Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, who was found alive six days after he was buried in snow. Hanamanthappa was found alive under 25 feet (8 metres) of snow, six days after he was buried by an avalanche that hit his military post in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.
In Varanasi, Hindu priests performed special prayers for the soldier’s speedy recovery. Hundreds of lamps were also lit for the aarti, as people sought god’s blessings for the soldier.
The army said the soldier was in a critical condition.
