Activists burn effigy of Pakistan-backed Khalistan militants

Ludhiana, May 05 (ANI): Activists burned an effigy of Pakistan-backed Khalistan militant organizations in Punjab’s Ludhiana city. They shouted slogans against various banned Khalistan organizations operating from Pakistan, Canada and other countries in the West. These organizations include Babbar Khalsa International, Khalistan Commando Force, Khalistan Zindabad Force and International Sikh Youth Federation. The protesters claimed that they were receiving life threats from Pakistan based Khalistan militants. Pro-Khalistan organizations, which enjoy the support of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, continue to pursue their so-called “Sikh Agenda” clandestinely. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Punjab was hit by a Pakistan-sponsored separatist insurgency. It claimed some 12,000 lives and affected the state’s development. But people in Punjab have rejected the demand for Khalistan and the state is prospering.
