DDA orchards thrown open to public

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): In a bid to provide more public spaces in the city, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has decided to throw open its orchards to the public. The land owning agency has 18 orchards of mango, guava, jamun, mulberry and star fruit mainly in north and northwest Delhi. The orchards are located in Shishmahal, Shalimar Bagh, district park in Pitampura, Sector 18 and 19 in Rohini, Narela, district park in Ashok Vihar and Shakurpur village. These orchards spread over an area of 500 acres. DDA is now planning to develop jogging tracks, install benches, improve landscapes and install lights to make the orchards more people friendly. DDA used to maintain the orchards and auction the fruits. It would earn around Rs 19 lakh per annum from every orchard.
