Heavy rain triggers landslides, damage houses, roads in Shimla

Shimla, July 27 (ANI): Heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh triggering landslides and damaging houses and roads in Taradevi and Krishananagar areas in Shimla. The skies remained heavily overcast and thick fog engulfed Shimla and surrounding areas, reducing visibility and hampering vehicular traffic. Though no loss of life was reported, it has caused damage to water channels, roads, and some houses. The Meteorological department has predicted more rainfall across the province in the next 24 hours. The June-September monsoon has so far delivered 1 per cent higher rainfall than average. Monsoon season is critical for the country’s 263 million farmers because nearly half of their farmland lacks irrigation.
