Supreme Court cancels Singur land deal

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): In a major setback, the Supreme Court on Wednesday cancelled the deal between former Left government and the Tata Motors in West Bengal’s Singur district. The court has directed the government to handover the 1,000 acres of disputed land to its owners. In 2006, then government gave the land to Tata Motors for establishing up a Nano car manufacturing plant. Following protests from the Trinamool Congress Party, the project was shelved and the matter was moved to the Calcutta High Court. Later, the case moved to the apex court.
