EAM Swaraj bats for Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism, expansion in UN Security Council

New York, Sep 26 (ANI): Asserting that there is a lack of international standard for punishing the terrorists, Union External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj on Monday pitched for the need for passing the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) at the earliest. The EAM further said that the temporary and permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council should be expanded. Launched in 1996 by India, the CCIT provides a legal framework that makes it binding on all signatories to deny funds and safe havens to terrorist groups. Currently, the CCIT draft is being discussed at the sixth ad hoc committee of the United Nations. The External Affairs Minister was addressing a gathering at the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
