Nagaland Oct 01, (ANI): Kangtsung village in Tuli subdivision of Mokokchung district is a picturesque Ao Naga village overlooking the plains of Amguri oil fields of Assam.
However, being situated on top of a mountain like any other Naga village, villagers in Kangtsung had to fetch water from a perennial spring about 2 kms away from the village.Hence, construction of water reservoirs became a major concern for the villagers. Community educational centre came as a big rescue for the villagers as reservoirs were constructed with the support from Hans’s foundation and the CEC. Most of the villages in Nagaland are located on hill tops and the villagers often have to depend on spring water as source of drinkable water. Rainwater harvesting was taken up to address the problem, as the state receives sufficient rainfall and due to the low-cost maintenance of this technique. It also does not require highly trained manpower. Along with the project, various programmes have been initiated to raise awareness among villagers about the right ways to utilize water. The initiative will certainly bring respite to the villagers. The pilot project has been initiated in Phekerukriem, Dihoma, Kijumetouma, Aradura, PBCA, Langpang, Longleng.
