Samastipur: Shilpa Singh, a model hailing from Samastipur, Bihar would represent India in Miss Universe  2012 Beauty Pageant to be held at Las Vegas , US on December 19 this year.
Shilpa Singh, a Software Engineer by profession and a model by passion recently completed her engineering from NMIMS  Mumbai. She currently works for Infosys Technologies.
Shilpa Singh was the  1st runner-up of I Am She – Miss Universe India 2012  but after the winner of  I am She was dethroned due to conflict of age, the title was finally given to Shilpa who would now represent India in Miss Universe 2012 Contest at Las Vevas, Nevada United States and Miss Globe International 2013.
She was not sure about participating in any beauty pageant. One day she saw an  ad in the newspaper for ‘I AM She 2012’ and just took it by chance. “I just wanted to give it a try,†the pretty damsel recalls in an Interview to New Indian Express.
For starters, Shilpa laughs, “I’ve always been a tomboy.â€Â That’s means, she elaborates: entering a national level pageant, she had no idea how to put on make-up, use a blow dryer and least of all, any interest in shopping.
“When my friends heard I was participating in ‘I Am She,’ they would joke and ask me: “Are you sure it’s not ‘I Am He?‘â€Â Glancing down at her five-inch something heels, it is clear that jokes apart, her tomboy days are well behind her.
Shilpa’s Family hails from a village called Diha in Singhiya block  of Samastipur district of Bihar.  Born in Samastipur, she did her schooling at Muzaffarpur, Ranchi , Jamshedpur and Mumbai. Her Family is presently settled in Mumbai.
