The death toll in the GAIL pipeline blast rose to 15 after a massive fire broke out in an 18-inch pipeline near a state-owned refinery complex of GAIL in Andhra’s Guntur district. Several others were injured after the trunk pipeline exploded following a gas leak.

While the explosion killed some people in nearby houses, the fire spread its wing to engulf several other houses adjacent to the pipeline trapping the residents and burning them alive.

All injured have been taken to hospitals in Kakinada, Amalapuram and Razole. The firefighters took two hours to control the fire. The explosion occurred at the ONGC gas complex at Tatipaka.Â
