JDU on Thursday kicked off its novel drive to enrol 50 lakh members and plant an equal number of trees in the state simultaneously.
Christened Harit Bihar Abhiyan, or green Bihar campaign, the drive was launched by chief minister Nitish Kumar from his native Kalyanbigha village, 60km from the state capital. He planted two saplings in the garden where the statues of his father and wife are installed. The garden already has 100-odd plants of different varieties.
After planting the saplings, Kumar got his membership of the party renewed and handed over 500 saplings to the 500 villagers who assumed the party’s membership on the occasion. They assured ‘Munna Babu’ (Kumar’s childhood name) to plant the trees and look after them.
