Massive Earthquake to the scale of 7.3 has hit  Indonesia’s Northern Sumatra today. Tsunami warning has been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. The quake, which had a depth of 29 kilometres, hit at 2:37 am (0007 IST) around 261 miles southwest of Banda Aceh.  But more than an hour after the quake, there were no signs of seismically triggered waves.
Huffington Post Reports that  there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage. Residents in Banda Aceh – the provincial capital – and other coastal cities poured on to the streets after being shaken from their sleep.
Indonesia is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
