Junior National hockey begins today

Pune, September 24, 2010: The future of Indian hockey will be seen in action when the 35th edition of the Junior National hockey championship for boys and girls commences at the Dhyan Chand polygrass ground at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal stadium, Nehrunagar, from Saturday.

On the opening day, Manipur take on Kerala in a boys’ match at 8 am. The formal inauguration of the 12-day tournament will be done by chief guest Vilas Lande (MLA), laxman Jagtap (MLA) and Anna Basonde (MLA).

Hosts Pune District Hockey Association will meet Goa in another boys’ match after the inauguration ceremony.

A total of 40 boys and girls teams will participate for top the honours in this competition.

The finals are slated for October 6.

Saturday’s schedule:

8.00 am: Manipur vs Kerala.

9.30 am: Madhya Pradesh State Hockey Academy vs Hyderabad.

2.30 pm: SAIL vs Rajasthan.

4.30 pm: Pune District Hockey Association vs Goa.
