An e-learning software developed by an Ahmedabad-based IT firm is helping five government schools in Bihar produce smarter students. Ceon Solutions Ltd’s multi intelligence analysis (MIA) software has made it easier for teachers there to identify students’ weaknesses and help them improve their skills.
Impressed by the effectiveness of the computer program, the Bihar government is considering to install it in hundreds of public schools. “Students now understand things very quickly. Teachers are also happy because they can explain subjects more efficiently,†Ajit Kumar, the director of Bihar government’s HRD department, told Mirror.
MIA software was first introduced in schools there as part of a pilot project. In just a year, it helped reduce dropout ratio among students by 20 per cent and improve teachers’ attendance by 50 per cent.
“We implemented the project in a few schools on a test basis and the response was very positive. We are now considering to extend it to 500 to 1,000 schools,†Kumar said.
While in the test phase, five schools were covered. In the second phase, the software will be installed in 10 schools. The founder and CEO of Ceon, Abhay Panjiyar, said that MIA program had also proved to be a success in eight schools and two universities in Ahmedabad.
“Earlier, teachers were able to only identify students’ weaknesses. With the help of our software, they can now find the root cause behind a child’s poor performance and help him/her improve his/her level of intelligence,†he said.
Panjiyar feels that e-learning solutions are vital for the growth of children. “A couple with two children spends nearly 70 per cent of their income on the kids’ education. They become very worried when their children struggle with certain subjects or perform poorly in class,†he said.
Ceon Solutions was incubated at IIM Ahmedabad six years back. However, it became operational only in 2007. The company, which has worked with TCS, IBM, HP and Oracle, focuses on providing innovative solutions in the education sector. It has tie-ups with firms in the Middle East, China and Africa. It now plans to market MIA software in association with solutions partners in the US and Europe.
