A farmer, Sudhanshu Kumar, from Samastipur district has been awarded Best Mango Grower Award by the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in association with Society for Development of Subtropical Horticulture (SDSH) at the ongoing Global Conference on Mango in Lucknow. SDSH has conferred the award on Sudhanshu for his significant contribution to promotion of horticulture in general.
“Adoption of scientific methods has boosted my income from Rs 10,000 to Rs. 6 lakh from the sale of fruits in a span of eight years,” said Sudhanshu, a Delhi University history graduate, who has an eight-acre orchard at Nayanagar village, around 90km from Patna. He directly sells his produce to exporters. Sudhanshu’s methods are now being followed by all the farmers around his village and it has made tremendous difference to their income.
CISH, a body of the Indian Council of Agriculture Research, carries out agricultural research in the country. The award in the form of a citation was handed over to Sudhanshu on June 21.
