Bihar has been chosen to be one among seven  states of India where Vegetable Clusters would be located. The other states chosen for the establishment of clusters are Gujrat,  Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The selection has been done after carefully analyzing the Agro-Output Performance of the states in past 3 years. Indeed, this is a matter of pride for all Biharis and recognition of the major role Bihar plays in  the Economy of India.
Presently, Bihar produces  8.60 million tonnes of Vegetables each year which accounts for about 10 percent of the total Vegetables produced in the country.
This  program would be implemented under  National Vegetable Initiative (NVI), which is a part of the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and will cover all aspects related to vegetable production, from supply of planting material to production, marketing and retail.
These vegetable clusters would meet the growing demand of vegetables in urban areas. A whooping sum of Rs 300 crore would be spent on these vegetable clusters.
Other function of these clusters include checking the price of Vegetables in the market by controlling the supply. Initially these are meant for domestic consumption only  and not for export.
These vegetable clusters would be jointly operated by Government and Private organizations.
