Anonymous brings down the website of CERT India

Anomymous India LogoAnonymous hackers have brought down the Website of Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT) down since midnight. The Website of CERT http://cert-in.org.in/ has been inaccessible since morning.

The group is also targeting  to take down India’s National Portal http://india.gov.in . In the past Anonymous has attacked websites of Ministry of IT, PVR Cinema, Reliance Big Entertainment and  Airtel . It was the International wing of Anonymous which brought down the websites of Paypal, Mastercard when they restricted the accounts of Wikileaks

The group has been doing this in order to protest the recent Government moves to implement Internet Censorship in India.  According to a note released by this group, Indian IT Ministry is in process of building The Great Indian Firewall similar to that in China to forcibly implement Internet Censorship. If such a thing happens, that would be a biggest blow on Democracy and the Right to Freedom of Expression in India.

Recently various Government agencies have tried to legally punish  many bloggers, small websites for hosting so called defamatory content. Social Networking Websites have been facing legal troubles for hosting content which is seen as defamatory by certain section of Society.

The Computer Hacktivists group known as Anomymous has utilised DDoS Technology to bring the Website down. Under Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS )the target machine  is saturated with so many external  communications requests that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable.

PS:  Even Biharprabha News recently got a formal threat from a Government agency to take down a Photo of a noted Model,  which was supposedly causing riots in some parts of India.
