Thailand  king Bhumibol Adulyadej has approved the dissolution of the House of Representative and the holding of the next general election slated for Feb. 2, 2014, according to the Royal Gazette.
Earlier, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra  announced the dissolution of the House of Representatives, today, according to Xinhua.
Since the government took office in August 2011, it has been committed to addressing all sorts of crisis to promote social reconciliation, but divergence and conflicts still remain, Yingluck said.
The House is thus dissolved to return the power to the people at a critical moment, and let the people decide the way out for the nation, she said.
The House dissolution is a way for the government to show responsibility for the current political situation, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said in a telephone interview with local Bluesky Channel.
Between 100,000 and 150,000 demonstrators rallied in Bangkok, with protest leaders saying their goal on Monday is to storm Shinawatra’s office, known as Government House, reports CNN.
Reports indicate that Yingluck Shinawatra may not be her party’s choice for the February 2014 Elections.
