The cause of death was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. Nimoy had other roles during a long career in TV, film and theater, including stints as a film director and author, but he will forever be linked to the half-Vulcan, half-human Spock, famous for his signature salute, “live long and prosper.”
