Ukraine’s female rebel fighters, from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic swap military clothing for evening gowns, bringing a splash of color to International Women’s Day.
“This is just an event to show that military women can also be beautiful and feminine.”, a female fighter Darya Voronina says.
Though the event was billed as a fashion show — there is no mention of designers.
Just the battalion for which each woman fights.
Irina Litvinova says that although she has taken up arms —
Her real goal is peace.
“We really want peace, so that our children are not being killed — as well as our civilians — which are not guilty of anything.”., Irina says.
Some 6,000 people have been killed since the conflict began between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian separatists.
But today, these female fighters and the public can distract themselves from the hardships of war — and indulge in a bit of glamour.
