New York: Having run 100 marathons in 100 days, Daren Wendell’s long distance run came to an end in New York City’s Times Square on Friday (April 10).
On January 1, 2015, Wendell set foot from Santa Monica, California with the goal of running across the United States, from coast to coast.
Wendell said he ran about 30 miles (48 kilometers) per day and consumed between 6,000 and 7,000 calories each day to sustain himself. His journey took him through all parts of the U.S., including Albuquerque, New Mexico, Oklahoma City and St. Louis, Missouri.
After about 3,400 miles (5472 kilometers) and 30 pairs of running shoes, Wendell completed his run to a crowd of cheers in New York.
Wendell was running to raise money and awareness about the need for clean water in parts of Africa. It was all part of the RunDarenRun campaign.
“We set out to run 100 marathons in 100 days straight to raise $100,000 (USD) to serve 2,500 people with clean water in Ethiopia. We met that goal… 28 days out, so we set two other goals. So we’re at like $130,000 raised. And we are going to help a lot of people through ActiveWater.org and Lifewater International. I couldn’t be more excited about it,” he explained.
Wendell said now he plans to put his feet up and relax for a few days.
