Paris: Around 30 people were injured when a passenger train leaving Paris slammed into a truck, government officials said Tuesday.
French rail company SNCF said the truck transporting agricultural equipment was stopped on the tracks when the train carrying 350 people to the eastern town of Belfort hurtled into the back of it, derailing five carriages.
“There are around thirty with light injuries … and two people with more serious injuries, the train driver and a passenger,” a local government source told AFP.
The SNCF said all automatic rail signals were working correctly and an investigation would be carried out to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
“We escaped a catastrophe which could have been much worse,” said local government official Michel Billout.
