For these mothers in Mexico City whose children are still missing, Mother’s Day carries a certain kind of sorrow.
These are the families of just some of Mexico’s estimated 25,000 people or more who have disappeared or gone missing in Mexico over the past five years, almost half of them during the presidency of Enrique Pena Nieto.
The families came from all across the country.
Brenda Rangel’s brother went missing in 2009 from the city of Monclova.
“We are not going to stop until we find my brother no matter what, even if all there is left of him is a little bone…Until that happens, we are not going to rest, we will not stop, we will not cease.”
The protest comes seven months after the disappearance of 43 teacher trainees from the state of Guerrero.
Their disappearance shocked Mexico and the world and plunged President Pena Nieto into his deepest crisis since taking office in 2012.
