Digi Dhan Mela organised in Punjab to promote digital payments

Ludhiana, Dec 29: Second “Digi Dhan Mela” was organized in Ludhiana recently with the aim to promote digital payments. People from across the state attended the event to learn the new modes of digital payment. Digi Dhan Mela, which roughly translates to digital money fair, is a daylong event where banks, common service centres and private digital service providers educate customers and merchants to adopt digital methods of payment. Various banks also participated in the fair to educate people about digital transactions and Aadhar Pay or Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS). Punjab, which is an agro based economy, witnessed most of its economy running in cash until last month. However, the state has seen a tremendous rise in digital payments since two high-value bank notes were scrapped on November 8, 2016. People from all sections of the society are moving towards the digitization of the economy and contributing at their own level to make India a cashless economy. In order to promote digital payments in the country, the government has started a large scale campaign, which also includes cash vouchers and various incentives to those who have switched to digital methods, to make the system hassle free. Digi Dhan Melas will be organised in cities across the countries till April 14,
