Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced many sops for farmers and the poor segment of population, including tax cut on VAT on kerosene and increase in diesel subsidy.
Bihar Assembly elections are to be held later this year. While releasing the report card for 55 month of his government’s “development march with justice”, Nitish told media that the decision was taken to overcome the difficulties being faced by farmers due to deficient and irregular monsoon.
The state government decided to increase diesel subsidy by Rs 20 per litre from existing Rs 15 per litre.
Nitish told media that there would be a significant cut in VAT on per litre of kerosene from 12.5 per cent to 4 per cent to help in reducing the burden on poor people due to the price spiral.
