PATNA: The Bihar State Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd. (COMPFED) is gearing up to launch yet another “white revolution” in the state. Towards this end, its top managers gathered at Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna (CIMP) here on Sunday for a day-long brainstorming session to discuss strategy for procurement and marketing of milk and milk products within and outside the state.
In recent years, COMPFED has been instrumental in increasing milk procurement in the state and today it is procuring over 12 lakh litres of milk per day, which is a record in itself. With increased milk procurement, Sudha is eying to expand its market in India and abroad. Recently, it started to export milk to Nepal. There are six district-level Milk Producers’ Cooperative Unions affiliated to the Milk Federation. Currently, these milk unions are covering almost all Bihar districts.
Speaking on the occasion COMPFED managing director Asangba Chuba Aao expressed his happiness over the achievements of this organization and said Sudha is one of the most respected brands of Bihar. He expressed the need of maintaining its position and expanding the growth in changing market situations. He elaborated the need for launching capacity building programmes and meeting the challenges of increased productivity of milching animals in Bihar. Plans are underway to accept each drop of milk offered by the farmers to Cooperatives which will herald a new white revolution in Bihar, he said.
CIMP director V Mukunda Das said the dairy sector is very close to his heart. He sensitized the gathering about the evolving and fast changing market scenario in Bihar. He observed that there is a huge opportunity to be tapped for COMPFED within and outside the state.
