Anand Kumar, the man behind Bihar’s famous ‘Super 30’ coaching institute, is now planning to set up a school in the state for the poor and underprivileged children. Kumar’s ‘Super 30’, also known as the Ramanujan School of Mathematics, is a free coaching centre which has helped many students enter the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) over the years. After delivering a lecture in Abu Dhabi on Friday, Kumar said: “There are a lot of organisations willing to join hands and we are in the process of talking to them. I am looking at a two-period to make this happen.”
Kumar said despite being limited by resources he has so far been reluctant to accept financial support for obvious reasons.
“I will accept money when the plan for school is completed. For the moment, I am happy running the show the way I have been on our own resources,” he said.
He also said that maximum attention should be given to elementary and secondary education.
Kumar’s institute provides full scholarships, including room and travel, to every annual batch of 30 students.
All 30 students coached at the centre have made it to the IIT for the last three consecutive years.
He said his dream is set up a school which picks up students from fourth or sixth standard.
“There are a lot of students who have talent but they cant study further because they have to work with their parents. They don’t have an option. That is why we have thought of a small school campus where children can live with us,” he said.
He said many people have offered to extend support to the project.
“A lot of such offers are there, including possibilities of making money through online teaching of Mathematics. We will create funds from such associations and use that money to build a school,” he added.
