LUDHIANA: Industrialists in India’s Manchester City are not seeing victory of JDU-BJP alliance, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, and development it promises in Bihar as a spanner in Punjab, rather they are of view that given sops they will open their units even there.
In the city, migrant labour mostly from Bihar has been providing work force to industry. However, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) of the Central government offering better wages has resulted in their exodus to Bihar. Election results of the state were thus being eyed by the city-based industry cautiously for this reason.
”Labour problem has already been there in the city but Nitish’s victory and expected industrialization is not going to have an immediate impact on us. Rather in such a scenario if some sops are given to the industry, we would not mind setting our units in Bihar. This is what has earlier been done in Gujarat and HP,” said Sandeep Jain, executive director, Oswal Woollen Mills.
Rajinder Gupta, managing director of Trident Group said, ”If Indians are welcomed back from America, present scenario of Bihar should also be treated as such. However if Industry gets a good environment for economical growth, industry would not mind going to Bihar.” SP Oswal, chief managing director, Vardhman, also expressed that development in any part of the country was a good thing as it would help in the growth of the country.
Whereas the labour problem is concerned there was a lot of unemployed population in Bihar and Punjab that can be mobilised. For the industry, there is no inhibition and given an opportunity it can extend its wings in Bihar.
”Industrial growth in any part of the country is good and there is no need of worry for us as the skilled labour problem is every where in the country. The economic growth and industrialization in Bihar would also bring opportunities for us,” said VK Goel, executive director and chief executive officer, SEL Manufacturing Company Limited.
