Patna, June 11 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has demanded that Gaya international airport near Bodh Gaya be renamed after Lord Buddha.
In a letter to central Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi, Nitish Kumar has demanded that Gaya International airport be renamed after Lord Buddha.
He stated that Bodh Gaya, which is five km from the airport, is a historical place. It is the birth place of Buddhism where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment about 2,550 years ago.
Hundreds of foreign tourists and pilgrims from Buddhist countries visit Bodh Gaya and land at the Gaya airport.
In 2002, UNESCO declared Bodh Gaya a world heritage site.
