Amit Deshmukh would be the successor of Vilasrao Deshmukh not Riteish Deshmukh. Amit is an MLA from Latur City, Maharashtra and the eldest son of Late Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Union Minister of Heavy Industries and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Amit, Vilasrao’s eldest son, started his political career with the Maharashtra Youth Congress at age 22.
In 2009 Amit Deshmukh contested from Latur City on Congress ticket & defeated Kayyum Khan Mohammad Khan Pathan of Bahujan Samaj Party & Shripad Kulkarni of Shivsena by a margin of 89,480 votes. A fourth largest victory in Maharashtra
Amit Deshmukh has completed Chemical Engineering from Thadomal Shahani College Of Engineering in Mumbai. He is married to Aditi Ghorpade.
When he married TV actress Aditi Ghorpade in 2008, few people even knew that he had been dating her for two years.
Of Vilasrao’s three boys, he is the only politician. Dheeraj, the middle son, is a businessman, and Riteish, the youngest, a Bollywood actor.
Called ‘Amit Bhaiyya’ in his constituency, he is known to carefully nurture his voters, constantly meeting citizens and discussing local issues.
Also he is President of Vilasrao Deshmukh Foundation and Latur Taluka Samanvay Samitee.
