PATNA: The state government is keen to hold National Games in Bihar. CM Nitish Kumar said the award winning players will be provided jobs and he will do everything possible to promote sports in the state.
The CM on Sunday joined the Bihar players in Ranchi and patted the award winners. Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, he said efforts would be made for promotion of sports.
Expressing anguish over the differences among various sports associations, Nitish said: “The sport bodies are not very active in Bihar. There are people running sports associations who have nothing to do with sports,” was his reaction about the cricket associations in Bihar one headed by senior RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui.
“If required, we can make law for the sports associations,” the CM said.
The government will make necessary infrastructure for the promotion of sports in the state. “During my many yatras, people, mostly youths, demanded stadia which shows their interest in sports,” said Nitish who expressed happiness that Bihar has won 11 medals in the National Games held in Ranchi compared to previous year when the state could not win even a single medal.
Replying to a query on interlinking of rivers within the state, the CM said the state’s concept has not been rejected by the Centre. “We started the river linking debate in 2005 and in 2006 held a meeting with stakeholders like farmers, environmentalists, scientists and water experts and they reached a mutual understanding” he said.
Nitish said he has come to know about the abduction of mariners aboard a private vessel by Somali pirates which included Kumar Prashant, a mariner of Patna. “I will take up the matter with the Centre. The Centre should act quickly on such matters,” he said.
