PATNA: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the environment and forest portfolio, on Friday, at a high-level meeting convened here, discussed enforcing ban on polythene carry bags in the state. Discussions were also held on preparing a development plan for the 12 wildlife sanctuaries in Bihar.
With polythene carry bags having become an environmental hazard, the government has decided to initiate steps to enforce a ban on polythene carry bags. However, at the meeting, Modi issued directives to officials to seek suggestions from experts in this regard so that the government could go through their suggestions before reaching any conclusion,Modi also directed the principal secretary, department of environment and forest, to develop Valmikinagar wildlife sanctuary in West Champaran district and Kanwar lake bird sanctuary in Begusarai district as tourist spots and prepare a development plan for them along with the rest 12 sanctuaries in the state.
