Bihar has shined again. This time courtesy goes to the young lad from Saharsa who made into the one of the 5 Indians selected for Rhodes Scholarship 2012.
Amit Kumar, a native of Saharsa, who is currently pursuing his final year of M Sc. Chemistry from IIT Roorkee has made his name among 5 Indians who have been entitled for this prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.
Having a poor financial background and absence of proper exposure, couldnot deter him from first getting into IITs and later into the list of Rhodes Scholar. “When Ratan Tata announced my name, it was the last on the list, so I had to reconfirm if I had heard it right. I could not believe that I was chosen and that I had made the cut to the final five,” says the young engineer.
As part of this scholarship he would undergo Post Graduate Research in Fuel Cells.”A team of scientists at Oxford are working on it. I would like to assist them to find out how the technology can be optimised for countries like India, where the rate of pollution is too high.” says Amit.
After completing his scholarship at Oxford, Amit Kumar wants to come back to India and do something productive for the cause of under-privileged students.
In the past Amit has won several award and fellowship
1. The Indian Academy of Sciences fellowship (in 2008 and 2009).
