Indian Railways is planning to setup better cooperation with its German Counterpart for Wagon/Locomotive designs and Imports and implementing High-Speed Trains. It will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with German Railways.
“India and Germany have a strong cooperation in the field of railway transport,” said Union Railways Minister Mukul Roy after meeting a high-level delegation led by German Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development Peter Ramsauer.
The two railways had an MoU for cooperation from 2006 to 2009 under which German companies have been involved in the supply of LHB coaches and signalling equipment for the Indian Railways.

It has 114,500 kilometers of tracks over connecting 7,500 stations. Almost 50 percent of the total tracks are electrified. It carries over 30 million passengers and 2.8 million tons of freight daily, employing over 1.4 million employees. It owns over 240,000 (freight) wagons, 60,000 coaches and 9,000 locomotives (Engines).
Indian Railways comprises of 17 Zones. Each zonal railway is made up of a certain number of divisions, each having a divisional headquarters. There are a total of sixty-eight divisions.
Additionally, Indian Railways also operates in neighboring countries like Pakistan, Nepal and Pakistan via special trains. It also plans to setup Rail connectivity to China via Myanmar, Vietman, Bhutan and Thailand.
The Indian railways is also pursuing to build the highest railway track in the world overtaking current record of Beijing-Lhasa Railway line.
