New Delhi: A 17-year-old schoolgirl was sedated and raped by two men in the upscale south Delhi colony of Safdarjung Enclave and a case was registered on the New Year’s eve, police said Wednesday. The attackers were arrested and sent to Tihar Jail.
Earlier, on the basis of the Class 11 student’s allegation, police had said that she was raped Dec 31 by the two men. However, the multiple sexual assaults took place a few months ago.
“During investigation, it was found that the girl had been raped more than two times a few months ago by the two men and was threatened with dire consequences which forced her to keep mum and even drove her to attempt suicide in December 2012,” a senior officer told IANS.
Rajesh and Naveen Singh Khetwal, who are brothers and work in IT companies, were arrested Monday night and sent to Tihar Jail after they were presented in a Saket district court, police said.
The victim met Naveen on a social networking site in September 2011. She told police officials that he had expressed the desire to meet her several times, sources said.
“On July 24, 2012, Naveen lured her to his friend’s house at south Delhi’s Humayunpur where he forced her to consume a drink laced with sedative and then sexually assaulted her,” said an officer.
The girl later contacted Rajesh through internet and he lured her to his friend’s house in Green Park where he too sexually assaulted her, the officer said.
The girl last month attempted to end her life by slitting her wrists, police said.
The incident alerted her parents who discovered some text messages from Naveen and approached the Lodhi Colony police station on Dec 31, 2012, morning. They were referred to the Safdarjung Enclave police station.
