Dharamsala: Some  Indian Currency notes of Rs 500 denominations have been spotted in Dharamsala, Himachal PRadesh with the note, Free Tibet,Free China. However the Tibetan government-in-exile located here  has called it  “a work of mischievous elements” and has officially disapproved it.
“It has been brought to our notice that Rs.500 notes bearing ‘Free Tibet, Free China’ slogan are reportedly in circulation in Dharamsala. It could be the work of certain mischievous elements,” the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said in a statement.
Police said a number of Rs.500 notes bearing the slogan were in circulation for the past three days.
“It’s a serious offence. We are looking into it,” Superintendent of Police Balbir Thakur told IANS.
The CTA said the “incident is unfortunate as it comes at a time when Tibetans from India, Nepal and Bhutan are in New Delhi to express their solidarity with Tibetans in Tibet”.
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama fled Tibet after a failed uprising against Chinese Communist rule in 1959.
Around 140,000 Tibetans now live in exile with over 100,000 of them in India. Over six million Tibetans live in Tibet.
