Narendra Modi led Government in Gujarat has reportedly initiated several disciplinary actions against the Ashram run by controversial Godman Asaram Bapu.
According to Media reports the Gujarat government has slapped Rs 18-crore fine on the Ashram over an alleged land encroachment case.
The state government accused the Ashram of encroaching 34,000 sq metre land reserved for a water harvesting project and setting up Jahangirpura Ashram in Surat. The rent for the land use was allegedly not paid to the Gujarat government for the period between 1996 and 2010.
In a separate development, the Gujarat Government has ordered the administration to investigate properties owned by Ashram in the state.
Media reports suggest that Revenue department officials raided the Budhel Ashram of Asaram located in Bhavnagar. The Authorities have reportedly taken into custody all the land documents. The ashram is said to be established upon agriculture land which is forbidden unless it is licensed for non-agricultural use.
In 2008-2009, the Ashram had to surrendered 6 acres of land which it illegally encroached near the Bhavnagar Ashram.
Recently Gujarat CM also warned his partymen to refrain from defending Asaram Bapu in the Sexual Assault Case.
