Budget 2014: Farmers have lots of Expectations from Narendra Modi

With the upcoming Budget from the newly formed Modi led NDA government, expectations run high from all quarters, from the middle class to the business class and to the farmers.

While the market experts and economic advisors expect the government to deliver a Budget which is growth supportive, anti- inflationary and committed to fiscal consolidation, NNIS visited Executive Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj, Krishna Bir Chaudhary to know his expectations from the Modi government with regard to the farmer’s community which contributes a large part towards the Indian economy.

The first and foremost issue of concern for any farmer are irrigation facilities. Irrigation facility makes the backbone of farming and therefore Chaudhary expects provisions from the government with regard to irrigation. With quintals of food wasted every year due to lack of proper storage facilities, the demand for better storage facilities is the next on farmer’s list. Help to the farmers should come from the government not through market, but through direct money, said Executive Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj. With the high interest rates ready to break the backbone of farmers and forcing them to take the ill route of committing suicide, Chaudhary wants the government to shrink the interest on loan.   Need for government to provide important provisions in the budget for the villages which produces seeds, Chaudhary said-
