Patna: Bihar Government will celebrate January 10 as the Urdu day to mark the birthday of renowned Urdu litterateur, journalist and former Bihar Assembly speaker Ghulam Sarwar. An announcement regarding this was made by Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi in a ceremony to mark Sarwar’s Birthday yesterday. Citing his contributions, Mr. Manjhi also called him a symbol of Communal Harmony.
On this occasion he announced several other sops for promoting Urdu language in the state, which included appointment of urdu teachers in every primary schools and filling the vacant positions of urdu teachers. He vowed to make urdu a language of common people.
Ghulam Sarwar was born on 10 January 1926 in Begusarai, Bihar. He pursued his education from Patna University and was known was a fiery orator in Urdu. He is credited to have established Bihar State Madrasa Education Board, while serving as the State Education Minister. He also helped establishing 16 Muslim minority Girls’ Schools and more than 350 Government Urdu schools in the state. He passed away on 17 October 2004.
