Thiruvananthapuram:: Members of the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala called for shutdown on Saturday after their legislators were left injured in the assembly ruckus a day before.
Legislators of ruling and opposition parties came to blows in the Kerala state assembly when finance minister KM Mani rose to table the budget in the legislature on Friday.
The LDF was opposing against the budget presentation by what they claimed “tainted” finance minister. Marketplaces all around capital Thiruvananthapuram were shut down and roads saw the odd cycle as state transport was off the road. Meanwhile, LDF held a protest march against State Government and Finance Minister KM Mani in Thiruvananthapuram.
A chaos had erupted inside the assembly after LDF legislators and watch and ward staff engaged in scuffle. A group of legislators even threw away the Speaker’s chair out of podium. State Chief Minister Oomen Chandy said the speaker allowed him to present the budget and he presented the budget in its complete form. CPI leader D Raja said that there are very serious allegations against KM Mani yet the UDF allowed him to continue as finance minister ignoring the resignation demand of LDF
