U.S. President Barack Obama said that Hillary Clinton, his former political opponent, who later served as his Secretary of State, “would be an excellent President.”
Obama was asked about Clinton, who is expected to announce her second White House bid Sunday, as he wrapped up historic meetings at the Summit of the Americas held in Panama.
Hillary Clinton has been regarded as the unofficial Democratic frontrunner for months. The New York Daily News says Clinton is preparing to run for the 2016 U.S. presidential election and is likely to make the long-expected announcement via video and social media on Sunday.
A variety of sources close to Clinton say they are anticipating an imminent announcement – but would not confirm the report.
Clinton, a former Secretary of State, senator from New York AND First Lady — has tried before. She was regarded as a frontrunner in 2008 too, but was beaten by the now president Barack Obama.
But commentators say this time, she is in a much stronger position among Democrats, with polls in recent months showing her with a substantial lead ahead of Republican contenders.
